Two new works, created after a recent week long painting class
I have varied the palette to reflect the colours of the original photos on which the following works are based.
I have manipulated the paintings of Bird, Cable and David-Need to give the images a contemporary context, with a ‘headline’ that to me summarises their life story. For the viewer to ponder.
This is the start of the new series for 2018, based around images of resilient women. These works are painted in magenta, to reflect the colour coding of the Penguin book series ‘Travel and Adventure’. From L to R they are based on:
I am experimenting with a new approach to capturing old images- scraping back the paint to leave a ghost image.
I have made 4 attempts to paint the same image of a camel (cropped from a standard tourist photo of me riding one by the Great Wall of China in 1986). Practice does not make perfect, just different. Hints of sheep and birds can be seen in the works (samel, bamel….).
